The primary purpose of Access Control is to ensure that only appropriate people are able to enter and leave specific areas within monitored premises. This requires a detailed layout of the floor-plan, and study of the requirements of employees, residents and transitory visitors such as cleaners and couriers. Hours of operation, outside contractors and local parking and public transport should also be taken into account.
In addition an effective implementation will act as a deterrent to intruders and reduce the likelihood of theft and damage. It is recommended that a team including Executive Management, HR and Facilities Management be put together to agree priorities and levels of permission. These permissions will incorporate door, lift level and after hours and can be changed as tenants change position or if no longer inhabit the building.
